Personal Injury Protection, also known as PIP, is a type of auto insurance coverage that pays for the medical expenses portion of an auto claim. In some cases, it can also cover lost wages and other damages regardless of who is at fault. 

PIP is a non-fault policy meaning that even if you’re the person who was at fault for the accident you can still get a portion of your medical expenses covered if you have personal injury protection on your auto insurance.
